The pipeline around the grid

Every step of the pipeline either configures the grid or consumes its output. That is the structural fact of local rank tracking: the geo-grid is not a feature of the pipeline, it is the pipeline's spine. The five steps below follow the grid from design to archive.

Step 1: Define the entity and keywords

The measured entity is the business's Google Business Profile listing — the record the local pack displays. The keyword set defines which queries the grid will sample. Both are fixed before the first scan: they are part of the measurement design.

Step 2: Design the grid

Size (3×3 to 13×13) sets resolution; span sets extent; the business sits at the centre. The design trades resolution against query volume and must match the real service area. Once chosen, the design is frozen — it is part of every comparison the archive will ever support.

Step 3: Sample per point

From each grid point the tracker issues the query and records the business's position, or its absence. The per-point record — position, keyword, coordinates, date — is the atomic unit of the whole system.

Steps 4 and 5: Archive and re-scan

Positions are archived with their geometry and timestamps, then rendered as coverage maps. A fixed cadence — weekly or monthly — converts snapshots into the time series that agency reports and multi-location comparisons consume.
